Big Phatty Ableton Live Pack
The Moog Big Phatty Ableton Live Pack is a collection of 33 different Instrument racks created from samples from my Moog Slim Phatty Analog Synthesizer. I’ve devoted countless hours to chisel, sculpt, and sample interesting and diverse sounds directly from my Moog Slim Phatty. I’ve spent even more time taking each sound and building them into the most expressive and diverse collection of sounds I have ever created. If you have ever used and enjoyed any of my Ableton Live Racks, you are really going to dig these ones.
Far and away, no question about it, beyond a shadow of a doubt. The Moog Big Phatty Ableton Live Pack is without question my most intricate and in depth Ableton Live Pack to date. I’ve spent months crafting these diverse instruments. When I began building the devices, I was sweating it out in a tank top, deep within The-Dog-Days of an uncommonly hot New York Summer; today as I write about the final product, I wonder if I should turn up the heat so that my toes don’t go numb. It’s not that I really intended to construct something this massive when I started, but the more I began playing around with my Moog Slim Phatty, the more I wanted to explore its capabilities.
Moog Big Phatty
Ableton Live Pack
The Moog Slim Phatty meets Ableton Live for a wide range of sounds impossible on the original hardware. A collection of 33 Ableton Live Instrument Racks..
I’ve never owned a Moog before, but after sacrificing a few nights out to eat and finishing a couple of well-paying gigs, I found myself in possession of the Moog Slim Phatty. (Notice how I passively “found myself in possession” of this new synth. I find this kind of description a great way to justify somewhat extravagant gear purchases).
Being one of the first times I’ve had a chance to sit down and really explore a Moog, right away I was blown away by its responsive filter, deep basses, and distinct distortions that I have since learned are nearly impossible to replicate in a purely digital environment. I immediately knew why the name carries such weight. Eventually, I began to dream how I could augment the power of this analog beast using Ableton Live. Soon enough, I was sampling exciting patches that I created on my Phatty and building diverse device racks, complete with an array of effects and manipulation capabilities.
I wanted to sculpt a wide variety of sonic textures. I wanted each rack to have powers that you cannot achieve with the synth alone. I wanted to have sounds no one else has and no one else has heard before. I can say with a sense of satisfaction that I feel all three of these goals have been met.
I look forward to your comments and reactions to these instruments. I am excited to see where these sounds take you musically. I long for the day I can hear some of the music you have created using these sounds. I’m very proud of this collection and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do.
