New York City Ableton Live User Group Meetup Presentation

I will be doing an online presentation for the New York City Ableton Live User Group on Tuesday, April 14th at 7PM EST. You can tune in from all over the world!

My talk will be about how we can make Live’s timeline grid follow our performances, rather than forcing our performances to follow the grid. Instead of quantizing your playing to the grid, we can quantize the grid to your playing. It helps you to create more human performances. Then you can program sequences that will follow those performances.

Also presenting are Sesamii, who will break down one of her remixes, and dolltr!ck, who will discuss setting up your first live performance. It promises to be a nice night of fun and learning, as well as a much needed dose of human connection.

Live Stream the event on 343 Labs YouTube Channel.

Here’s the official writeup from the NYC Ableton Live User Group:

Brian Funk: More Human Music: Quantizing the Grid to You

Normally, we adjust the timing of our performances to conform to a strict musical grid. What if we could adjust the grid to fit our performances? We can do this in Live, and Ableton Certified Trainer Brian Funk will show us how! This underused feature allows us to have natural and subtle fluctuations in timing, characteristic of real human playing.
