Make the Grid Follow You; Remix Breakdown; Setting Up a Live Performance

I had a great time attending and presenting at the New York City Ableton Live User Group Meetup last night.

The Meetup included excellent and informative presentations by dolltr!ck (building a live performance) and sesamii (a remix breakdown). I spoke about making Live’s tempo follow your performance rather than quantizing your performance to Live’s tempo. This allows you to create sequences and use time-based effects that follow your natural playing.

Here’s the timing for each presentation:

Brian Funk: More Human Music: Quantizing the Grid to You

Normally, we adjust the timing of our performances to conform to a strict musical grid. What if we could adjust the grid to fit our performances? We can do this in Live, and Ableton Certified Trainer Brian Funk will show us how! This underused feature allows us to have natural and subtle fluctuations in timing, characteristic of real human playing.
