I Was Wasting Time
Whenever I come across a repetitive task, I look for ways to simplify it and save time. I’ve created templates, made countless presets, and make sure my gear is connected and ready to go.
I’ve noticed that almost every time I start a new song, I sequence a simple drum beat to play along with. Many of these are beats I’ve programmed thousands of times before. Sometimes this takes enough time that I start to lose touch with the initial inspiration I felt towards the song.
Repetitively sequencing the same starter beats was not only costing me time but also affecting my creative flow.
Enter Go-To Beats!
To protect precious moments of motivation, I’ve created a collection of the types of beats I often create to start a track. I took extra care to create natural velocities and timings in each beat. Many of the beats also contain notes that are tied to a Probability percentage; sometimes they play, sometimes they don’t. This helps keep the beats from becoming too monotonous.
The result is Go-To Beats!
65 Ableton Live Clips and MIDI Files.
4 categories: Straight, Grooving, Syncopated, and Triplet.
They’ve already helped jumpstart ideas and save time.
The Feel of My Favorite Drummer
I don’t know who my favorite Beatle is, but Ringo Starr is my favorite drummer. He always played his part to fit the song. His beats just feel so good. There’s a certain swing to his playing that can’t be matched!
I’ve taken beats from 44 of my favorite Beatles songs and extracted the grooves. Go-To Beats comes with these 44 Ableton Live Groove files.
Simply drop one of the 44 Fab Four Ableton Live Groove files onto any clip to give it the feel and timing of Ringo’s playing!
