Sarah Belle Reid is well-known for her creative work with modular synths. She sent me 5 extended synth jam samples containing all kinds of other-worldly sounds.

Using those samples, I’ve created a collection of Ableton Live Instruments that you can use in your music!

Chopped and Ready for Percussion and Ear Candy

There are 5 sample chopped instruments perfect for sonic bursts of energy.

The first 5 instruments I created use Ableton’s Simpler to cut each sample into small slices. These are perfect for unusual percussion, ear candy, and sound effects. Experiment with the Sensitivity control to change the length of each chop. Use the Sample Start control to scroll through the samples to find new sounds.

Melodic Instruments - Smooth and Mellow to Harsh and Aggressive

There are 12 instruments that make use of Simpler and Sampler. Explore smooth mellow keys, ruthless basses, and alien soundscapes.

There are 12 instruments built from Ableton’s Simpler and Sampler. They allow you to sculpt your sounds with filters, Frequency Modulation, Arpeggiators, and Delays. When you Reverse the sample, playback starts from a new position and travels through different parts of the samples.

Granular Synthesis Leads to New Worlds

The 3 Granulator-based instruments are perfect for evolving sounds. Pay attention to how each note changes over time.

There are 3 instruments based on Ableton’s Granulator III. Each of these instruments evolve and change as you sustain notes. You’ll find yourself exploring new worlds and finding sounds within the sounds that might inspire your next track.

The Granulator-based instruments have Macro Presets that allow you to return to more stable, melodic sounds… just in case you get a little too far from home.
