Rectangles Synth Guitar - Free Ableton Live Pack #228

Rectangles Synth Guitar
Free Ableton Live Pack #228

A synthesized electric guitar Instrument Rack, designed to cut through layers of real electric guitars.

I used this sound on 7 songs on my album Rectangles. It served as a trademark sound that helped give the album cohesion and character.

*Requires Ableton Live 11.3 Suite or above.

Sometimes a Song Needs a Trademark Sound to Give it Life

While putting together the songs for my album Rectangles, I wanted some cohesion between the tracks. Each song began as one of my daily Jamuary jams. On each song, I used the same sounds for my guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. Normally, because modern DAWs afford us endless options, I would have used different sounds for each track. But because Jamuary gives you so little time to search for sounds, I reused the same ones over and over.

I wanted a lead melody in most of the songs, but when I added another electric guitar to the layers of existing guitars, it got lost in the mix. I didn’t want synthesizers because they took away from the garage rock sound I was going for. So I experimented with creating a synthesized guitar.

The trademark sound of my Rectangles album, consisting of a Wavetable, Amp model, and Echo.

Ableton’s Wavetable is extremely versatile and its MPE features allow for lively and expressive sounds. After dialing in a guitar-ish sound, I added a guitar amp Audio Effect Rack. Now I had a guitar-like sound that stuck out from the other guitars in the mix. A little Echo helped give it some atmosphere, and some heavy eq-ing removed the lower frequencies that interfered with the bass and drums.
