SPIRAL Ableton Live Pack: Dense Complex Looping Electronic and Acoustic Instruments
Complex, Looping Sample-Based Instruments
SPIRAL is a collection of instruments created from a unique form of looping samples. Using Ableton's Looper, I created a bunch of multi-layered, multi-instrument samples. I played guitars, synthesizers, sang, used percussion, and created non-melodic sounds in my loops. Some instruments are recorded in reverse and some have rhythmic patterns. The resulting 25 Instrument Racks have interesting depth, texture, and movement.

SPIRAL is a set of Ableton Live Instruments created through a unique type of sampling. Using Live's Looper device, a collection of dense looping textures were created with a combination of electronic and acoustic instruments, as well as noises and sound effects.
Building Samples with Ableton's Looper
Using Ableton's Looper device allowed me to create rhythmic loops, overdub new instruments, and record some of those overdubs backwards. I used the "Drag me!" button to create audio clips of my loops. Those audio clips were then brought into Simpler. Simpler's warping feature preserves the rhythms and timing of the loops, so as the instruments are played, they move in sync with the music.

In the video below, I create a looping soundscape using a variety of instruments. The music at the end was created with SPIRAL instruments.
Customize Each Instrument to Fit Your Music
Each instrument is built with Macro Controls to adjust the Amplitude Envelop, the Filter, and the Sample Start Position. Because the loops evolve and change over time, the Sample Start control can dramatically change the sound of the instrument. When combined with the Amplitude Envelop and the Filter, each instrument can be sculpted into something entirely new.
SPIRAL and its corresponding Audio Effect Rack, "Move Cut Echo"
The ADM Move Cut Echo Audio Effect Rack also creates additional movement in the instrument. Tremolo modulates the volume over time. BR Glitch uses a Beat Repeat to introduce rhythmic stutters. The Delay controls give the instruments a sense of space and distance.
